Test copies of your database

A copy of your database (an Odoo.sh staging build, a duplicate for tests) still has the Shopify keys. The connector makes sure such a copy cannot change your live store.

Copies of your database (an Odoo.sh staging or development build, a duplicate made for testing) must never change your live Shopify store. Commerce Bridge takes care of it.

How it works

  • Each store remembers the database that connected it (its database UUID).
  • A copy of a database normally gets a new database UUID. Then the store shows a warning This store was connected from another database... and the badge Read only copy.
  • A read-only copy can still read from Shopify (test connection, import products and orders) but never sends anything: no stock, prices, products, deliveries, cancellations or refunds. Buttons that would send refuse with Store "X" was connected from another database. This copy can read from the store but does not send anything to it.
  • A neutralized copy (Odoo.sh staging, or a database neutralized with odoo-bin neutralize) also turns off automatic order import, stock and prices on every store, and cancels pending jobs.

Moving the live database

After you move the live database to a new server, Odoo may see it as a copy. Open each store and click Use in This Database (Odoo administrators only). From then on, this database sends again.

warning

Click Use in This Database only in the live database. In a test copy it would start sending test data to your real store.

Webhooks of Shopify keep going to the address they were created for (normally the live Odoo). After moving to a new address, set them up again on the store.
